Jane's Work Experience

Jane left college in 1977, keen to start using her newly acquired qualifications and skills.

Her first major role was as a Senior House Mother at St Christopher's School, Bristol. St Christopher's was a special needs residential independent school for around 50 children and young people aged 7 to 25, who had severe and complex learning difficulties, or profound and multiple learning difficulties. Jane's position within St Christopher's was also residential, and included Personal Care of the pupils.

Due to personal circumstances, in 1980 Jane joined the family business of Clarke & Sons in Stanton Drew, Bristol. There, Jane was an administrative officer for 13 years. In 1984, Jane had her son.

Jane managed and led school holiday playschemes in Sandy Park, Bristol for 2 years alongside running a term time only nursery in Brislington, Bristol between 1987 and 1988.

When Jane's son started school, she set herself up in business as a childminder. Her charges ranged from 6 months old to 12 years old. During this period, Jane was also a Youth Worker for Bath & North East Somerset Council in Radstock. She taught Art, Drama and Life Skills.

In 2004, Jane ceased her childminding and started working at Norton Radstock College (now Bath College) as a Teaching Assistant and Learning Support Assistant. During these 13 years, she gained extensive experience of working 1:1 with pupils as their Keyworker. Jane worked at Norton Radstock College until 2017.

From 2017, Jane has worked within schools, for various temp agencies.

In August 2017, Jane decided to start committing some of her spare time to volunteering within her local community. She has regularly worked at the Cats Protection League and the Children's Society Charity Shops in Midsomer Norton.

Jane is keen to continue adding to her skillset as has been shown by the Level 2 TeamTeach training she has completed in August 2021. This qualification is in addition to Jane's comprehensive experience of dealing with pupils with challenging behaviour.
